City of Adelaide | Christmas Lighting

12.02.2017 – Yesterday’s Christmas lighting at the Victoria Square was packed with a huge turn out for the festivities, which officially starts the holiday season.

Though I only made it towards the tail end of the event it was quite a sight since I’ve been into these events every year back in Manila.

For Adelaide this was one of the highlighted events towards Christmas. The pageant last week was a sign that spring has ended and welcomes the Summer Holidays, while the lighting of the digitally powered tree was the beginning of Christmas.

The event had an earlier ceremony to light up the tree and around the area food trucks where lined up to serve food and drinks to walk-ins. There was a stage with a band performance that closed out the festivities. Traffic was very well managed by the police in the area while the event is happening.

From a far the Christmas tree has a newly installed digital graphics compared to what I’ve seen last year. This was actually my first to witness the tree lighting, but of course I missed most of the opening ceremonies though it’s good enough to see how things went on Friday night with the event. I had little time to go around the area, but I had good view of the stage and the crowd dancing on their feet.

This event had a huge turn out ending another hectic week and its all good seeing people’s faces smiling and snapping photos to celebrate the start of another holiday season. The traffic on both side of Victoria Square wasn’t that hectic people manage to leave the area after the band had ended their performance.

It was a spectacular end to a busy week and was right for the Christmas lighting to happen. There’s plenty more photos shared through social media and the cold weather at night was just right after all that heat definitely a treat.
