Graffiti art is slowly getting accepted to society in the Philippines as another form of expression. But there are still graffiti that is considered vandalism such as an unfocused and random destruction of another art piece. If you’re not the usual commuter who takes a jeepney, trike, or even a bus chances are you won’t notice it.
Whenever I’m about to take a commute to somewhere I’m always paying attention to my surroundings like what I used to do back in Adelaide and there’s something new that I might discover that I have not seen in the previous days. Last Thursday was just a random day and just across the street there used to be one graffiti art but they added two more artworks that I called the ‘Mikez Wall’ a tribute to a friend who passed on. |
It was one of those rush hours passed 10 AM about to take a jeepney out and last night when I got off from the same spot I didn’t noticed these two new artworks. It is either they were painted the day before or in the early mornings that they were put together. Anyhow, they were eye popping considering the older graffiti was not that bright it was in a black background with gold paint combination.
If Mikez was still around he would make the trip on his bike and have a photo opportunity with these two new installations. But I still want to keep the memories on that nice young fellow since he and Don Razon where the first people I met on the former online forum of Action Figure Philippines sometime in 2006.
Just like these two new installation of graffiti art they will be around like Mikez is connected to the older one that was there since 2019. The two new installation says “Read” while the other is difficult to decipher with that kind of font design all I can see is “Tell `em ur Love” is what is inscribed in that wall. The first one has combination of deep colors with red, blue, pink and purple while the other have lighter color tones of blue and pink with white as based background of the entire word play. It is a bit of challenging to see it in photo. But it would be best to see them with your eyes to really appreciate the artworks.
You can find them along Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo) just across a Billiard hangout you won’t miss the three street arts if you’re going to PRC it is on your right or if you’re going the opposite way it is on your left. Besides these graffiti arts you can also find the other places just best you walk and commute than take your car with you as it is better to navigate the terrain going through those tiny streets.
