Mr. D.I.Y | Back in Business

It’s been a full month, but recovery really takes time. Mr. D.I.Y. is one of the local establishments in Davao Oriental that took a while to reopen. Because the way the store was built, the contractor they hired cut corners on some parts of the facility, and it was a good thing that the posts that made up the foundation of the building were not compromised, and the last time it was seen being repaired was in late October.

The early morning weather was not that bad, but towards the last quarter of the year, Davao Oriental has its ‘rainy season’ with most of the Mindanao region experiencing the same weather, as most people in this area are spending the Holidays with this kind of frequent downpour towards the start of the year.

After the quick grocery run at ER Supermarket, the trip went straight to Mr. D.I.Y. to pick up some toilet cleaning materials like brushes and a plunger. Of course, revisiting the store’s wide selections in various parts of the building was a secondary priority, and that’s the most time I spent checking.

Well, mostly the toy section since the last time I saw the Hot Wheels pegs was just recently replenished in late September, and after that, the earthquake happened, and that was it. But before going through the toy section, there are some interesting footwear at the far end of the building where the arts and crafts are also located.

Art, Crafts, and Footwear

The last time I was here just wearing the usual pair of sneakers that had a minor repair, and got myself a pair of ‘Frocks’ for temporary use while I try to sort out fixing the only pair of shoes I had with me.

Of course, the main reason for going to this store was picking up the toilet brushes and plunger, which is located on the other side of the second level of this store, while the other room is mostly office supplies and the toy section.

Toy Section

If the last time visiting this section has taken so much time, because it has, I haven’t seen it for over a month. The Hot Wheels section was just restocked, and other toys were abundant aside from the usual stuff like Sluban-branded construction toys. I finally know what to get, but most of them have been bought out since they reopened more than two weeks ago.

They still have the pull-backs, but the ones with mini-figures need restocking. It’s crazy how things have changed over the course of the weeks and months being in this place. Despite all the challenges after the earthquake, they managed to get back to serving the local community of Davao Oriental in this part of Baganga.

Last Stop before Heading Out

Personally, the budget was not enough to pick up those rechargeable batteries for the R/C helicopters here that my father had bought for him to play with, since the old batteries started leaking. Maybe when I can come back, hopeful to finally do a flight test since the last time I played with them was thirteen years ago.

On the way back from the supply run, I managed to come back and pick up the kitchen strainer since the one we had had served its purpose. The kitchen section is located only at the ground level, but in my short visit back, I managed to check what else they have that is worth the next visit.

It was kind of a strange way to get used to the ‘summer vibes’ in this region, and then suddenly it started raining. But as always, I get to pick up some stuff that I’ve been wanting to get since my last visit. It’s not that much, just like the last time, but I managed to get more Sluban stuff.

The Hot Wheels section was high and dry after they reopened, where the good ones have been brought out. But at least I still found this Mercedes-Benz from the Wide Body Mini Collection. Not bad for another trip, and it might be a while before I get to visit this place again. But it’s good to see this store back in business.
