Street Art Exposition | Requiem for a Mural

Whenever street art or a mural is discovered it brings such curiosity and sometimes a bit of inspiration from most people who never have had any association with the world or art. Personally, not everyone can draw and create things out of random objects to produce a masterpiece for some would call it “junk” because not everyone has the same taste in art as to its views and opinion. Street art nowadays is acknowledged and respected for its creation. You can find one or randomly discover it unexpectedly. It depends on who’s looking and has an affinity or respect for what is “art” and what is not. For all things, everything is art it all depends on your taste or preference and never judge or discriminate as they are created equal.

Art defines what you want it to be and sometimes it adds vibrant colours or life to a mundane location. This has become part of urban renewal in some major cities in the world and Makati, the Philippines business district has tapped local talents to redefine that perspective through their craft as an artist in ‘adding colour’ to the city. This has become part of the urban culture since Makati City made changes and improvements through their elevated walkways and underpasses by adding art in giving some vibrancy in a heavy urban area that also promotes it as one of the well-known cities from around world. Of course, art is here to stay and it happened again.

Street Art Exposition | Graffiti Art at Chino Roces

Graffiti art is slowly getting accepted to society in the Philippines as another form of expression. But there are still graffiti that is considered vandalism such as an unfocused and random destruction of another art piece. If you’re not the usual commuter who takes a jeepney, trike, or even a bus chances are you won’t notice it. Whenever I’m about to take a commute to somewhere I’m always paying attention to my surroundings like what I used to do back in Adelaide and there’s something new that I might discover that I have not seen in the previous days. Last Thursday was just a random day and just across the street there used to be one graffiti art but they added two more artworks that I called the ‘Mikez Wall’ a tribute to a friend who passed on.

07.03.2016 – There are varying degrees of art but nothing like the expressive mantra of Graffiti or Street Art whatever you call it. There’s nothing like a creating expression created on a blank wall that has become a canvass for everyone to see. If you haven’t heard about the Pilipinas Street Plan, then you must have been stuck under the rock indulging on your noon time shows, nightly telenovelas, and the occasional corny joke on your favorite radio station to ever see what they’ve done. This year marks their tenth anniversary and they’ve grown beyond as a community.
