12.18.2019 – I’ve met so many good people in the past through the toy collecting community. Some of them has grown and moved on and then there are some left this plain too soon. I used to be part of the Action Figure Philippines (AFP) forums before Facebook took over the social media mainstream.
When you talk about AFP there’s Don Razon, who passed away in 2016 and then there’s Mikez Ancheta. Both men are close friends and shared bonding time when Don was traveling back and forth from Melbourne to Manila whenever he can up until his passing sometime in October three years ago and now Mikez follows him… |
Though I don’t personally know Mikez, but we share little things in common about collecting toys, informative about some sneakers and we share for the passion in supporting the Chicago Bulls despite its doldrums. During the Derrick Rose-Era we would root for the team and usually in social media that’s where we share our excitement for the team.
There’s one thing Mikez was into the last five years was reviewing games for the Playstation game console. I remember how he shares his reviews and besides for his passion for the games there were sneakers too. I stopped wearing the Jordan Brands or what’s popular during its time, but Mikez was in to them to the point he started his FB page business recently with Rose Locker Room.
Unfortunately, due to his sudden passing a couple months back that of course has stopped and it was fellow AFP member Mikko Rosales aka MIKOSWABE during the Toy Art PH Toy Festival that he mentioned his passing. It was sudden personally for me as around that time he was confined at Makati Medical Center and his last status update is that he’ll be done with the check up once the doctors have cleared him after being sick for the past months.
The last time we had a short conversation when I posted a graffiti art along Chino Roces Avenue that he asked for its exact location. Going back to his last status post on Facebook dating back to 12 October 2019 would be considered his last as by the following day that’s where his relatives posted that his untimely passing.
There were a few decent people in this country and Mikez was one of them that are humbled by his peers never showed any arrogance. The guy was chill and adores street art hence our last conversation couple months back until he had the chance to see the graffiti wall himself last 17 July 2019 as when he shared it on Facebook.
That wall will forever remind me of Mikez and what made him unique as an individual. He never rides the hype and he is his own man. If I was into religious fanciful realities he would probably hanging out with Don Razon himself by now. Both men have been their own and stood out for me had the chance to hang out with them during those times when Don invited me to his former place in QC.
This is a fitting tribute to you Mikez and I hope that your family find peace in your passing. Surely, you’ll never be forgotten just like Don was and thank you for the memories my friend we will never forget you. If ever the Bulls get their act together, which is next to impossible in this lifetime I’m sure if I ever see them make it and win that will be a tribute for you too.
R.I.P. Mikez Ancheta, February 20, 1983 - October 13, 2019.
