The Phantom Menace in the Star Wars Press Media Gala Premier!

02.09.2012 – The star studded affair in the Philippine press screening of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 3D was phenomenal. The weekend ends with a bang in seeing this film after 13 years. I recall buying movie tickets for the midnight screening with friends.

Back then I was so excited about the movie that most hardcore fans would turn this film down. I’m a casual Star Wars fan who only got to see the original trilogy for some in their 30s in video cassette formats of Betamax and VHS players. Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was the fourth film directed by George Lucas which definitely made this billion dollar franchise known globally.

In 1999 I almost completed the first wave of action figures spending my hard earned school allowance. It was the most talked about Star Wars to date which gave good and bad publicity. The film earned $9.24 million dollars that changed the way we see movies.

The special gala premier here in the Philippines was big enough to bring out the local celebrities and personalities. Of course the preceding of the program prior to the screening won’t be entertaining without Rico Robles who also hosted the launching of the adidas x Star Wars apparel back in 2010. It was fun seeing Robles poke fun with The 501st Legion of the Philippine Outpost.

To give you the idea how the film went without spoiling the younger generation eager to see this film. It’s simply a very long movie and for those who are familiar with Lucas’ Star Wars films everyone knows that he added some additional scenes aside from making some 3D interactive.

Coming full circle in seeing this again after the original theatrical release recalled the night we stood in line to catch this film and I was wearing my Darth Maul shirt that my uncle sent to me.

Star Wars will forever be part of the popular culture and will always be re-introduced to the next generation of fans. Regardless if it’s getting negative feedback the franchise will be there time and again the same way they milked the merchandise.

For any fan like me it’s good enough to bring a little bit of nostalgia from thirteen years ago. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3D is Now Showing in cinema locally distributed by Warner Bros. Picture Philippines!
