Vinyl On Vinyl | Strange Times

Sometimes, the best inspiration can be found on the internet. It could be a meme or a recently viral post on a social media platform. Cyberspace has become this vast ocean of visual diversity from the child-like innocent to the unregulated content that children below the age of 13 are not allowed to see. It’s something to take in if you have a stomach or a pair of eyeballs that can withstand random content not innocent eyes.

It can be entertaining, and yet if you have a vast look at anything virtually and reality it is something to take in in these “Strange Times,” which is the title of this solo show featuring Chalk Zaldivar at Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery. The presentation for his latest solo show is both entertaining and visually inspired on the internet.

The subjects he has chosen are unfamiliar to those who have been engrossed with local content on television and social media. But it gives you ways to think and find the curiosity in his ways to make you pay attention at the same time intrinsically muster your curiosity and ask the artist where he found these characters and people.

This solo show has descriptions of his featured subjects as the modern “one-hit-wonders” or an old school term for “15 minutes of fame” on the internet with the constant rapid changes of who have become viral to the old ways of those moments of ways are now merely just seconds and then they’re immediately forgotten.

But this set of paintings presented by Chalk is frozen at the moment that you can’t put your finger on who’s who like a curious Mr. Bean, Personally, a friend from the US who has seen the post for this gallery only identified “Big Ed” from the “90-Day FiancĂ©” an American reality show aired on the TLC network. For the rest, you have to figure out who are these people and creatures in Chalk Zaldivar’s paintings.

In case you missed out on the artist reception earlier this evening, maybe, you want to browse over the images from the gallery below…

Lastly, aside from the paintings he has produced, some installations were inspired by the Oscar Award trophies with different expressions. Truly, Chalk Zaldivar is bringing his best creative visuals to the forefront and certainly deserves its award for something fresh and unique for his latest solo exhibit.

“Strange Times" is the latest Solo Show featuring Chalk Zaldivar that opened on 7 until 26 September 2024 and will be taking space in one of the galleries at Vinyl on Vinyl.
