Book Launch | Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug

Book Launches are a rare event prominently held in bookstores rather than in huge public venues or inside a shopping centre. But this one is a partnership between the publisher the author and illustrator with the NBDB (National Book Development Board) promoting literacy in the country.

The event is about a book launch featuring a Children’s book, and not just an ordinary book for kids. It is a story about an Indigenous Boy named Migoy, a Tausug an ethnic group of people who live in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The book promotes Filipino Culture and Cuisine.

This is a reason why reading is important and why this launch was special for the kids out there.

The event has already started and the idea of seeing the launch was there would be book signings. But it turns out to be about the book promoting the Tausug culture as well as the food that was never heard about by locals who never traveled to this region. This represents the stories of children based in these places.

If you’re curious to know more about the book, this was inspired by the image, personality, and childhood stories of Chef Miggy Cabel Moreno, the co-founder and chef of Palm Grill, and an advocate for Mindanaoan cuisine.

In case you have missed the book launch, here are some of the images through the tail end of the event…

“Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug” is published by Paper Kat Publishing and it was written by Nelson Canlas and Dr. Isabel Cabel Moreno-Go (MarĂa Izabelli CM Go), and illustrated by award-winning illustrator, Danielle Florendo. The book has a multilingual language in Filipino, English and also in the native tongue of Tausug.

It is now available at select Fully Booked branches for ₱ 425.00 Pesos.
