TUBE MNL | Ways to be Informative

02.09.2020 – If you’re in the Philippines and commute mostly through the three active elevated railways or try your way out weaving through horrendous traffic in any means possible to avoid taking too much time in one area. Chances are some of this public commutes have visual billboard or something for distraction.

The LRT 1, 2, and the MRT 3 tram railways has consolidated its link up to better manage the local commutes in Metro Manila. In these elevated rail transits they also consolidated content namely adding visual billboards that carry information and sometimes content from their collaboration with TUBE MNL and network giant ABS-CBN, which either a distraction or a disaster that needs further improvement.

I’m a regular commuter taking advantage of the elevated trains namely the LRT 1 and 2 or sometimes the MRT Tram (yes, you read it that it’s not a train but an elevated tram similar to the grounded ones in Adelaide, South Australia). Usually, it gets really packed in those elevated rails on commute that there’s not time to read a book or find some distraction to pass up the time while in transit.

The three rail service recently installed LCD infomercial screens in most of their trains and had a test broadcast in early 2019. The concept is new to Filipino commuters, but in some countries they already have this type of service. For someone who has got accustomed to the Western culture and why some of the trains there don’t have this type of service is because or protocol.

Adelaide Metro, the train the services most of South Australia don’t have any of these visual infomercial. The buses are not allowed to have even television screens that you see in most local buses in Manila due to distraction for the drivers that they try to have them more focused on the driving and dealing with passengers at the same time safety for them during their six hour work shift. While the Adelaide train and tram has the same policy not to have visual infomercial it is better suited to have some quiet time while in commute.

No Proper Standard for Personal Space

But knowing the Philippines that most of its residence in a big city that doesn’t know the term ‘personal space’ would rather play videos on their phones without their headphones or just doesn’t even care to be sensitive around them the visual infomercial actually adds to the noise that should be more use to important information than playing videos from the so called ‘influential bloggers’ from product reviews to trying to tease viewers with their food.

There is nothing wrong about content for entertainment purposes, but there are places for that namely a personal space with access through their phone directly to those whose content were featured. What TUBE MNL should do is beside the news that is being broadcast in device they rather put important information that really is useful for everyone to really pay attention. The video content they put doesn’t meet the ethical standards for a content that only shows the not-so good side of Filipinos promoting not-so good influence.

Distracting Non-Important Infomercials

There are these so called ‘food videos’ where they feature themselves eating the food on screen or two people competing how many nuggets they ate. This is bit better broadcast on their channels than in public. The way they present themselves showing how they explicitly tease what they eat that doesn’t make everyone hungry only show the thought of them making you feel bad like… “Hey, I’m eating this hope you’re hungry see this clip.” Sure there are better ways to conduct ourselves in presenting food but onscreen sometimes it does not translate to ‘entertainment.’

The same with how some take their product reviews like “hey I have this hope you feel envious with what I have” mentality. There are great ways to produce a product review and there should be important ways to conduct that thinking on the other side of the screen namely the viewers. I’m very sorry to the vloggers who make this type of content, but the idea that you also put a laugh track looks so unreal. I experience seeing and experience proper content for the right place it might be boring at least what’s important is how the information would be helpful for the commuter.

Personally, this is just my opinion on how I observe my daily travel commutes in the city and the way it uses loud music is not even healthy to say none informative for something that the LRT or MRT travels should have other important content on TUBE MNL than things that should be loud than rather getting information.

What TUBE MNL Content Should Be

• TUBE MNL should do is put content about what is important.
• List of events happening nearby where the train travels along the parts within its area.
• Music also helpful a soothing one for the long travels in each station.
• Ensure Important Safety Information on all train networks.
• Keep the Important News

Honestly, the current content for TUBE MNL is not up par with quality standards. Music videos are also good content, but loud music is not one of them. You don’t need to play music that make others feel asleep it is a major “NO” for commuters to sleep on a train as unexpected danger might happen.

These suggestive ideas may be boring or not too impressive, but there should be quality standards for content and not have it look like it sounded like it came from a tabloid or whatever is deemed inappropriate content. There should be better way to communicate with the commuter and have customer service, which will be helpful for everyone taking that long trip down the tube in Manila.
