Adelaide Life | Happenings Downtown
Of course, the best part of being in downtown Adelaide is how you can view the sunrise or sunset from within the city. No other country would have set this up when other cities have that opportunity for high-rise residents, and not even a random pedestrian would even have the same experience.
But to have that opportunity every single day not even as a resident of Adelaide was something to appreciate about as you may never see such simple things even in a more crowded city somewhere else. This is something of a novelty already after getting off the stop at North Terrace and seeing how the skies form in a different way that it looks chaotic, and yet you get to see how the sunset happens as you pass through the main streets like King William or North Terrace.
Sunrise to Sunset in Adelaide
I’ve been walking around the city even before going to Regency Park early in the morning, and after that went to Armada Arndale to catch the next bus going downtown. It was a full-on Friday experience having to wake up preparing for the said class and then getting things done in the afternoon.
But sometimes amidst all the busy things happening around I still get to appreciate the little things Adelaide has to offer, which is the view of the skies not covered entirely by building and all that you don’t see anywhere else. You get the sense that on every given day you still have an open mind to be able to appreciate these things some nobody ever even bothers to look at because they’re stuck worrying too much.
The Life of Stars on a Friday Night
After getting off the bus from Regency Park, I headed down to check out the South Australian Museum, Every first Friday Night is an opening night for a new gallery. Most of the opening reception is exclusively needed for paid entry or a monthly subscription from the museum.
Sometimes, you don’t need to spend for it when the artwork outside, namely the installations gives you that new perspective of inspiration. This one example is the “The Life of Stars” which was installed in February of this year by Brisbane-born, Sydney-based artist Lindy Lee as part of both the gallery’s Adelaide Biennial exhibition for this year’s Festival and the Fringe’s Parade of Light illuminations.
It’s like a giant egg-shaped structure perforated with thousands of holes that are made of stainless steel sculpture that’s 6m high and weighs a ton, which was supported by a 4-ton base illuminated from the inside that gives you a perspective effect of the stars from a galaxy far away. But it certainly resembles a map of the galaxy that will be a permanent fixture that you see outside the museum itself.
Getting a Greenlight for FCBD 2018
On the last pass through Adelaide before heading back to the suburbs is the local comic shop in the area of Rundle Mall. It’s the place I frequent just to hang out with good people I’ve known for almost two years already is set to get ready for Free Comic Book Day, and this might be my first event in Australia.
I’ve been a regular attendee of Free Comic Book Day since 2007 back in Manila, but this one is scaled down that’s definitely not going to see guys lining up Thursday nights. It’s overkill back where I used to spend this event, but this one is just simply no need for illustrious pageantry just walk-in around and chatting with like-minded individuals.
The City, a local broadsheet that’s given FREE every Wednesday has already one cosplayer on the cover to promote the event happening this Saturday. You don’t see this as a promotion to hype up the events happening around Adelaide and this is certainly something to look forward to the weekend.
Almost forgot, today is Star Wars Day and it’s just a good time to appreciate the fandom check out the happenings, and of course, did some Toy Photography before heading to class this morning and paying respects to Carbonite Solo at the Greenlight Comics shop that probably will be there to remind you “He Knows.”
