Brickstameet | Adventure at Mt. Lofty

04.30.2018 - It was an eventful Sunday going up the Adelaide Hills would be something to tell a story about. But going up there poses quite an amount of challenge.

I’m very fortunate and appreciative to have a good and loving community around me that you really feel part of a group, and I was grateful to have them.

I’m talking about the SBLUG (Southern Bricks LEGO® Group), which held their recent community members for some “Brickstameet,” which is held every two months on an on-location “Toy Photography” gather featuring each member’s favourite LEGO® minifigure or set that they can use as subject for their photography.

This is probably the third or was it the fourth time? I’ve completely lost count of the times I’ve been attending these gatherings, not counting the monthly meet-up with the community for those non-toy photography members that are overall part of the SBLUG community.

It has been months since the last time going to the “Brickstameet,” which was last held at Semaphore Beach that was way farther than I thought, and took A LOT of walking go to the gathering to make it to the tail end to able to just hang out and do some toy photography during those waning hours on a windy summer perspective that was first going there via Adelaide Metro.

But this time, I was prepared since they announced the gathering up in Mt. Lofty in Botanic Gardens. I remember going to this place almost five years ago on my first visit to Adelaide and being nothing but awe at the greenery that the state of South Australia has preserved this place just hiking or spending the day surrounded by nature itself is something you don’t see anywhere else.

Passing through Burnside suburbs

For this trip back to Mt. Lofty, I really appreciate the gesture of two of the members of the Brickstameet team offering a ride to go up the Botanic Gardens since the Adelaide Metro has very limited in going up to the hills. Of course,

I have to meet them at a certain place, namely Burnside, which is a classy suburb in the vicinity of Adelaide. I only hear stories about the rich living in these parts, but that wasn’t the best part of the meet-up point. It was a toy store named “Imagine if…” a small business shop in Burnside.

Since I was early for the meet-up time I decided to pass by and check the store because I’ve been on the hunt for the rest of the LEGO® Minifigures Series 18 that’s almost complete not including the sought-after Classic Police Man. When I got there senior staff was just sitting at the counter and asked her if the new batch of CMF 18 was just opened and she says it was.

I didn’t take too much time to feel through the blind bags and grabbed the thinnest one I can find as a tip to get the Classic Police Man it is the one without the costume that I have not had the time to even take a peek at it as Narelle has texted that she has arrived waiting just across the street.

The Policeman has been found

As soon as I get to the back of Narelle’s car, Harald was riding shotgun and had found time to attend the “Brickstameet” as I usually see him with his wife. But for this trip up the hill at Mt. Lofty this was quite a treat to hang out with him and Narelle and it was great to see them both.

While on the way up the hill, I revealed to pick up a new CMF 18 Minifigure, and I told him that the chance to get that Classic Policeman would be bleak or no chance at all that I was guessing the old lady at the toy store might have said that those packs she just out up might not have the rare figure as Harald says I got it.

When we arrived before all the pleasantries and whatnot I see a lot of the attendees already including Catrin and her kids who were having some sandwiches while I see on the grass pondering on the luck that turned out to be what I never expected.

I slowly opened the bag and take a peek and it was the one I’d been hunting at Coles, Woolies, and other retail outlets in my area to only find it at a toy store in Burnside. I’m sure it’s nuts but here’s the Policeman in all of his nostalgic glory to be had, and all I need is the last four figures to actually complete a set.

Up the Lofty Adventures

The rest of the “Brickstameet” was expanded in this story was sort of a workout going up the hills and through the pathways. I brought the ones I really thought would work to be used in the scenery, and the rest as they are history. Although not quite enough as I used up all my batteries and memory for this adventure.

It was fun and it lasted the rest of my Sunday, I sure will always keep these meet-ups in memory with these good-natured individuals. I couldn’t imagine a better day than this when some of the adventures were not caught on camera due to using both of my mobile phone’s memories and their batteries running on low.

The best part is starting the day by acquiring the classic Policeman and then spending dinner with Savithri and the others who remained hiking down the Botanic Gardens and near downtown Adelaide. Here’s hoping to go back to Mt. Lofty someday as that place certainly rejuvenates your perspective of being stuck in the city and just going to this place to be with nature was quite a day.
