NBA | End of an Era For Team Support

06.23.2017 – If you grew up watching the National Basketball Association (NBA) chances are you’re a basketball fan. In the Philippines it has become a national sport that everyone from all walks of life has admired Bird, Magic o Jordan, the GOAT.

But these icons of the game has moved on but never forgotten and it made you root for their teams because basketball is a “team sport” though right now is not a good day to root for the Chicago Bulls since they traded their future to the Timberwolves.

Yes, Jimmy Butler was traded on the Minnesota Timberwolves along with the 16th pick on the eve of the 2017 draft that selected Justin Patton, the freshman center out of Creighton. While Chicago receives Chris Dunn (last year’s Dunn was last year's No. 5 overall pick), and Zach LaVine, who averaged 18.9 points last season before suffering a torn ACL, was the No. 13 pick in 2014.

The Bulls also get the No. 7 overall pick on draft night, which was used to select 7-footer Lauri Markkanen. Now Markkanen is a spot-up shooter also one of the most lethal perimeter scorers in this draft class.

But the excitement for someone who has been rooting for the Chicago Bulls since ‘The Jordan Era’ might have finally ended here. I’ve been a casual fan for the best and worse times of the franchise. This must be the lowest point for the Bulls fans Bulls out there that have grown up supporting teams. This era belongs to those who followed their favorite player regardless of which team they ended.

Butler’s trade to the Timberwolves would sting more for the Bulls fans in the next season to come. The franchise itself has been a toxic place to work with generally the front office with Gar Forman and John Paxson calling the shots behind-the-scenes, while having Fred Hoiberg was not the best coach for this team after firing Tom Thibodeau in 2015.

If I have a choice to pick the best front office management for this franchise I’d pick the late Jerry Krause over Forman & Paxson has how they trigger the team’s major overhaul. It’s like pick your own poison not that Reinsdorf have any foresight getting these types of personnel to handle this team with all due respect for what they did the past five years things are going downhill from here.

Not the most glamorous decision the current regime is going. I won’t ‘Trust the Process’ this time with this kind of decision like going back to 1999, where things go downhill for the six time NBA champion team.

Looks like Butler’s trade to the Wolves make that team an interesting one to watch this coming NBA season and rumors has it Derrick Rose might sign in a possible replacement to Ricky Rubio when he gets traded. It’s a bad taste in the mouth why Bulls management has done this and it wasn’t that tragic when Rose was traded to the Knicks just to dump his huge salary.

This is going to reunite Butler and Coach Thibs which is a lopsided trade to ever acquire the 3-time All-Star. Truly it’s the end of an era to support your favorite NBA teams and hypocrisy is no longer the validation if you jump ship to support the player you admired because change has to happen and looks time being a going for the Timberwolves is not a bad thing or would you rather jump the wagon with the Golden State Warriors? Pick you poison…
