03.01.2012 – Moneyball is one of the movies who were nominated to six Academy Awards including Best Movie, Best Actor (Brad Pitt), and Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill) in the recently concluded Oscar’s. Though they came up short to bagging any of the awards for this movie this is something to look forward to watching this week. The story about a biographical sports drama about the accounts of the Oakland Athletics baseball team set during the 2002 season. This was based on Michael Lewis' 2003 book of the same name. |
In the film, general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and assistant GM Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), faced with the franchise's unfavorable financial situation, take a sophisticated saber metric approach towards scouting and analyzing players, acquiring "submarine" pitcher Chad Bradford (Casey Bond) and former catcher Scott Hatteberg (Chris Pratt), and winning 20 consecutive games, an American League record.
Before the film was made it took number years of development after Columbia Pictures bought the rights to Lewis's book in 2004. The film was featured at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and was released on September 23, 2011.
Besides The Descendants and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close this is the third film which will be shown in the Philippines that has nominations for the Academy Awards.
Moneyball opens across the Philippines on March 7, 2012 nationwide from Columbia Pictures Philippines!
