Earning Your Right to be The Descendants!

02.12.2012 – The Descendants is a comedy-drama film that is making rave reviews when it first shown in selected cinemas in North America. In the Philippines it has a quiet press media screening last Friday inviting a limited few.

It was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and it’s not far behind to be given same treatment with the Oscars.

Produced under Fox Searchlight this film introduced a break out star in Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller. The film based on the original novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings gives us a story about the struggles of an American family and going through a lot of complications in life.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen that has nothing to do with a lot of people getting shot or hordes of droids get blown up for some fairly odd reasons. In fact it will give J. Edgar a run for his money for the best film if we see them compete in the Academy Awards. George Clooney as always gives a stellar performance as Matt King a conflicted parent trying to get to know his two daughters.

In-between the life of Matt King we see the breathtaking scenes set in Honolulu Hawaii which captivated the beauty of the island. Alex Payne certainly brings the best out of his cast as the director of the film known for the film “Sideways.”

The Descendants also has Beau Bridges playing as Matt’s cousin who brings his acting to the table. The film’s main star is of course the scenes in Hawaii and the cinematography plays well most notably in the beaches where the sun shines. The soundtrack used makes it Hawaiian authentic to make us feel like we’re part of the movie as the story unfolds.

Though we’re not giving up any plot points it revealed through the trailer what this movie is all about and definitely it delivers a heartwarming story about a family struggle and what does it mean to be a descendant and how to preserve the family’s future.

Overall it’s a perfect rating of 5/5 that this film deserves not only Golden Globe Award accolades but also something for people who are not into action thrillers or science fiction movies. I could go on and rave further but all you need to know is George Clooney is in it and something different to see compared to the other movies that have been out.

The Descendants opens across country in selected cinemas on February 15, 2012 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros. Picture Philippines.
