ManilArt 2018 | The Educational World of Art
This year of course, is certainly a bigger event which continues to show that art is no longer limited. But being promoted now that different universities have various field trips, which bring their students to the SMX Convention Centre in SM Aura to give them a closer look at what ManilArt has to offer.
I’m very impressed about the quality of contemporary art has grown in Manila. I haven’t attended this type of events in a while as the only access I’ve been visiting occasional whenever I have the chance is at the South Australian Museum, which housed the Art Gallery of South Australia, a collection of paintings and installations from different countries all over the world.
But ManilArt has something different to offer more focused in the local art scene and the ever growing talents have pushed their boundaries in exploring and making these impressive works. The Philippines is a very diverse and talented country with artists from all over the region. Most of the artists that get recognized are based in Metro Manila. Some of them have been born or grew up in another country that decided to come home to the Philippines to reconnect with their parent’s roots or to take the chance in making a name for themselves through their passion and adoration for the arts.
Its mind boggling that for those who don’t appreciate or who are not aware of these events will ever truly know how diverse and talented Filipinos are. Not only in the field of music and theater can you find talented artists, but also through contemporary art.
You have to thank the small art galleries that sprouted all over the city, particularly in the City of Makati, where you may discover some of the works you see in this event. The teachers who bring their students in this event have a learning experience getting to know some of the artists who are present during the first day which opened its doors for the general public.
Though appreciating art is something being discipline and cautious not to touch them is another. Most of the students have been quite a handful when they were looking at some of the works that needs to be reprimanded for touching the painting and the installation. They need to be educated properly by their teachers with the event organizers assigning personnel, who would assist them in their guided tours through the exhibit.
Artworks and installation are appreciated but there are boundaries when students start touching them. Unless the gallery staff would allow it by a courtesy to ask for their permission, but most students I have witnessed were not supervised. These paintings are priceless or carrying a very hefty price tag. Those are just minor things I observed during my visit.
It is worth noting that ManilArt is something for everyone to visit as there are countries who have similar events like this and the Philippines is starting to become known for the arts. You have to thank this event for making it possible that art has been accessible to the public and you certainly need to make the visit to see it for yourself.
ManilArt happening from 17 to 21 of October 2018 at the MSX Convention Centre in SM Aura, and for details where to purchase the tickets you may call +63 (0919) 991-8765 or inquire via Manilart on Facebook.
