Press Film Review: Star Wars The Force Awakens!

12.16.2015 – The Force Awakens gala premier in the Philippines was star-studded with personalities from television and the internet. From Stormtroopers to lightsaber wielding fighters you’ve got them all in one place.

That place of course is the IMAX in SM Megamall where they where playing John Williams musical score to the films as early as 6 PM and it can be heard at the Mega B section of the mall and it was great to be a Star Wars fan.

Of course true fans to bandwagoners they got them all too even those who never knew what came before they got exclusive access to the biggest film to close out 2015. The movie was much-awaited, most social media discussed, and hailed as the long awaited film since Return of the Jedi in 1983.

Forget what others know and pretend that you’re cool too, but no matter what you’re still part of history. The IMAX theatre was packed to the brim and it was on 3D as ushers hand out the glasses you can also avail one of your own for PhP 450.00 pesos. But not just some 3D glasses one of them is designed from Kylo Ren’s face mask and all you need now is a flat screen television that would able you to use it at home.

There was the Pinoy 501st Philippine Garrison, the Rebel Alliance Group, and the Lightsaber Fight Guild. You got all the characters in one night that some that doesn’t have an invite felt the gush of envy. Globe was handing out tokens that some have took home exclusive mugs, pillow, and a tumbler. It was a crazy night where typhoon Nona (international name ‘Melor’) was hovering over Metro Manila and NoaPH has raised it to alert level signal number two.

But the force was strong with those who first saw it, but couldn’t share their review about it until the embargo to release it gets approved until 7 PM. There was only one trailer that was shown prior to the screening and it was Disney’s The Jungle Book and the rest was two hours of exhilarating, ticket-biting, breath taking spectacular ‘feels’ for a every true Star Wars fan. But for those bandwagoners some of them need to bother their true compatriots for explanation about the back story inside the cinema.

There are no spoilers to share here but to experience how the crowd felt was just like JJ Abrams has previously quoted when asked what that was they are seeing the moment they first released the full trailer: “It was hope.” For those who never have to go through the three prequels before the long times fans thought it was over. But JJ Abrams as a torch bearer of growing up being a Star Wars fan has put this franchise back on top and he definitely deliver the goods.

There was ‘goose bumps’ all over again never felt in a long time since seeing Empire Strikes Back over a Betamax copy that was being rented. Its that same feeling anyone who grew up watching the franchise during its beginnings and here we are now.

Some where teary-eyed seeing it you can feel the emotion scene after scene and if you never have this in your childhood surely you’ll just go with the emotions of everyone who have seen ‘Star Wars’ from the very start.

Overall it was something to remember how you’re 8-year old self felt like when seeing it. As quoted by Han Solo himself from the first trailer: “Yes, It’s all true all of it.”
