02.05.2012 – There a lot of passionate individuals out there which share their talents or interest in the field that define them. These days the social media spectrum elevates these individuals beyond television and radio. For some it has become their way of letting themselves known for what they love doing regardless the attention that they are getting now. There was one individual who I find interesting and rarely will you see being into wrestling that is mostly dominated by the male audience. I’m talking about Hannei Dimaano a big wrestling fan and who is inspired to catch Ted Dibiase on the ropes on WWE. |
Personally at a young age I was already discouraged that wrestling is scripted. But for anyone who had grown to see these high flying muscle bound mayhem of the ring they are real and they can also get hurt. After witnessing a live wrestling event at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night I get to see more passionate fans who cheered for these fine gentlemen and women of the sport.
There are a lot of talk about and coverage about this event that I decided to dedicate this article to Hannei Dimaano, the young lady who had won the Facebook contest as the manager for the night.
She accompanied Hurricane Helms in the ring and had the backstage access for the whole duration of the event. I’m happy for this young lady as you can see she really deserves to win the contest being a big fan of Ted Dibiase. She was also present during the Meet & Greet prior to the event last Friday lining up with his parents to have her posters signed.
The student of Dela Salle Lipa had put up her own tumblr page and twitter account dedicated to the one wrestler she would like to meet in person.
My memory about the yesteryears of wrestling was from the early 1990s where all the colorful characters like Hulk Hogan or Sgt. Slaughter was enough for me to remember how cool to see both of them beat each other.
For Hannei this was larger than life for her to be part of the event that was WWFX Champions Showcase Tour 2012. Though Smart Araneta was not filled to the rafter it’s enough to say wrestling in the Philippines have devoted fans. Not as big as any other sport but it’s enough to entertain those who rarely see this kind of action.
The last time we had our own wrestling event was back in the late 1980s to early 1990s and it was a rare occasion to witness such a home grown entertainment. The World Wrestling Entertainment (formerly WWF) was well known that made Dave “The Animal” Batista and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as household names which also gave them acting careers in Hollywood.
So for fans like Hannei this was a big deal and for some of my friends who I invited to watch these matches it was something for special them. Admittedly I’m not that big of a wrestling fan and if it weren’t for bringing them to this event I won’t be seeing this all by myself.
Special acknowledgments to Nixon Sy with Dayly Entertainment for the opportunity to share this event with friends Timzster, Billy, Roy and Vince who are also true wrestling fans.
