02.28.2019 – Independent self-published comicbooks fly below the radar that only few readers will come appreciate an original idea or mostly thematically a slice of life theme related to either the author or inspired from other people’s stories that they shared. Some may be thought provoking while others gravitate to how deep it is produced to capture a cult following.
There are more of these interesting stories that are out there that you may not know of, but are quite fascinating to merit a feature such as George Rex’s Tid Bits. It’s originally an auto bio about the author and some loosely based from her ideas that she self-published through the help of her Patreon followers funding the product of the said book. George Rex is just a pen name for Georgina Chadderton who is an artist based in Adelaide South Australia along with her partner Owen Heitmann. Both talented artists are into comicbooks and had promote their artistry through their workshop that they organize every third Monday of the month called “Comics with Friends and Strangers” which I had the opportunity to attend these art gatherings held at the Box Factory. |

“Tid Bits” tells the story of the author in a cartoonish narrative which is a compilation of short stories. It’s either share George Rex’s adventures or her everyday life with interaction to Owen’s comicbook character. The 22-page collection is in full-color with George Rex simple art style that captures the author’s personality and how she represents her comicbook character having an everyday life sharing what she wears or what’s her favorite food.
Like SupermanM she also have her weaknesses in an adorable way that you’ll find it interesting how the author and her comicbook character has slight difference in the real world. I had the opportunity to share some of the independent published titles including Tid Bits to Filipino artists for them to look what South Australian comicbooks look like just the way I did share some of the titles that I received during Komikon 2017 when I was living in South Australia when they commented on how cool Bakokak was.

This time, during Komikon 2018 I brought some of the comicbooks that were sold at Greenlight Comics namely George Rex’s Tid Bits and what they say about the book is its well laid out with the panels and how the artwork is simple while the text is understandable for them to appreciate the vibrant colors.
Most of the local artists at Komikon who had the chance to browse through the pages of Tid Bits had positive raves on the presentation that stood out to the other comicbooks published in South Australia.
The minimalism style on how the pages where laid out and text being understandable was a good sign that they like George Rex presentation, but storywise it’s a different story as this is the first time they have read an auto bio loosely related to the author not a fictional narrative about adventures of a character that she made. There are no comicbook themed autobiographies in the Philippines that are sold in bookstores or comic shop so this must be the first time they get to read George Rex’s Tid Bits.
“Tid Bits” is a collection of an auto biography loosely based from the author and short stories that George Rex has written and had hand in the artwork. It was made in support from her Patreon Supporters.
The cover of this collection is a homage to the most well-known cover of Ghostworld, a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes and the cover price is at $ 6.00 AUD | PHP 310.65 Pesos exclusively available at Greenlight Comics where George Rex is also the store staff there!
