Lindol Comics | Earth Shattering Survival
Published: August 2017
Content: PG-13
Language: English
Visually “Lindol” is stunningly grounded with realism with Randy Valiente handling the art its worth noting that he was able to translate the written narrative into chaos ravaged with destruction. Valiente has done numerous projects, but this book certainly put him in the map in making this ongoing series at the forefront of independent self-published works that would test the waters of readers who have got used to Filipino folklore and the slice of life narratives.
When you go through the second and third page that forms the splash page it gives you the visual idea how terrible the earthquake has taken out the fictional version of the Philippines this also gives you the visual spectacle Randy Valiente has to offer. Tedi has put tremendous effort in making you feel that this world is not what it used to be and it’s writing disaster-themed episodic series is not as easy taking out a flying bat-winged half bodied undead creature that would suck the life of an innocent child. Here, you trying to figure out how people would survive after the chaos of the Lindol” that has given you not only mental trauma but something people would try to shake off from the horrific tragedy literally.
There’s a lesson to be learned about the story and it starts with the individual characters you will meet along the way. As part of the narrative, you have different personalities that populate this series and it’s a challenge in world building and making sure they relate, which sometimes baffles you to the point you’ll try to find the resolve what makes them interesting.
You get to meet the heroes of this story, but Grey was you average wrong kind of individual that you’ll be annoyed at for all the right reasons. For all intents, he’s the example most individuals can be defined from. It’s mostly relatable to the bad side of some Filipinos about greed and self-serving that shows their true agendas in the middle of a crisis that rocked their country. Though its short to the last few pages we see get introduced to Dash de la Cruz and Camillo a window hope for what’s next in the series of survival and mystery what “Lindol” has to offer and it a whole new playground for Tedi Villasor to tell his story about these individuals.
Overall “Lindol” was a slow but gravitating story about the survivors of an earthquake gone terribly wrong. The story arcs are inspired from how the Walking Dead had started earlier in its infancy, but this one is grounded that it's up to the writer and artist how they can move forward with these characters.
They may not be relatable to everyone but they will slowly grow on you how this new endeavor in a vast playground that Tedi Villasor and Randy Valiente that they have started to tell and what mysteries lies and what triggered the earthquake that rocked the heart of a country that its still trying to find its way to a bigger world.
“Lindol” (Earthquake) is a self-published work written by Tedi Gustilo Villasaor and an impressive artwork by Randy Valiente with cover price of PhP 240.00 pesos ($6.00 AUD) now available at Comic Odyssey.
