Random Talks | Sam Leach & Art

07.28.2018 – MOD is the latest interactive gallery in South Australia, which is located at the University of Adelaide along North Terrace. The first exhibition titled “Modify” (Stylized: MOD.IFY) opened it doors since May and will close on October 2018. It features a diverse and impressive interactive art and installation that will simply open your mind that will give you curiosity.

The first show featured two artists one of them is Archibald Award winning and Doctor of Philosophy (Fine Arts) named Sam Leach who is just about to wrap up his six weeks of being the “Artist in Residence,” which also had a special lecture gallery last 4th of July that shares his works and how his art impacts technology with his show as part of the “Birds and Bees” exhibition and had the chance to talk to him about it.

Contemporary Art is an ever changing and evolving regardless who creates it. I’ve been exposed to finding interest in street art. It’s been a while in visiting art galleries with the recent one promoting Museum Day a couple months back by sharing a tour of the South Australian Museum. But with MOD it’s an entirely new concept in how you interact with art that mixes technology and future possibilities.

For some its quite heavy stud to get your head wrap around the concept and expression with the “MOD.IFY” as the first exhibition show. There have been separate galleries happening at MOD from planets and stars, sound and visual light expressions to the possible future where humans can be ‘modified’ as machine to suit the environment. Then you have Sam Leach, the artist in resident for the past six weeks sharing his contemporary art and latest works that merge with ordinary objects with birds that’s somewhat thought provoking at the same time impressive.

Sam shares his beginnings and where his art got influenced from. He also shares how his works evolved for the past nine years and still continue to infuse new elements to stay relevant with contemporary art and you can listen to the audio interview below:
