Get Into Libraries | A Graphic Novel World

07.11.2018 – Graphic novels has come a long way being acknowledged not just a four colour page comic book. But a rich source of stories with images that is now the basis of what movies, television series, and other medium that defined its literacy among the shelves of books that you’ll find in a library.

In other countries, libraries are a dying breed that most gravitate to popular opinion than what is important to the future generation.

Kids these days have been spoiled with the technology that they have as to compared to the older generation that prefer the tactile feel of the inks, smell, and pages of a graphic novel.

The Marion Library Services one of the three libraries being operated in the City of Marion has been one of the constant sources for graphic novels. Its one of the many places you’ll find comic books that is compiled either hard or soft bound. Rarely, you’ll ever find a place that will give you the ones you need. But libraries in South Australia is interconnected giving you access to thousands of books at your finger tips is something other state of Australia doesn’t have.

Besides the thousands of books that can be acquired through other libraries you can also have access to other media like documentaries or audio books as well as anything that you can get your hands on. But the graphic novel section is the essential part of what libraries continued existence. Why buy the books when you can borrow them and at the same time appreciate the literacy of comic books influenced by other western cultures that should continue to expand not just other works by American literacy but also cultivating in promoting the grassroots.

Local Culture with Enriching Stories

South Australia alone has the talents who produce their original material. Greenlight Comics is one such store that focused on the independent self-published works by the local artistry based in Adelaide. They’re quite a talented community that needs to be given the spotlight that Marion Libraries may have something to offer and to enrich the Australian heritage why not feature the local scene?

Graphic novels are a window to young adults who would pick-up comic books at Greenlight Comics its also a door to give more interest in reading not just the four colour pages of Batman, Wonder Woman or Superman from DC Comics, but also promoting the grassroots work done by Adelaide-based artists like Mike Cooper aka Dr. Mike 2000’s “Universe Gun” or Jess Cate & Jana Hoffman’s “Heart of Millyera” to name a few works that could be given a spotlight at Marion Library Services.

Graphically Novelized Perspective

There are other good works out there that can give much connection to promoting what Australia has to offer besides the usual Phantom or Iron Man books and it all has to be collaborated between Marion Library Services and its local artistry. As what Colonel Nick Fury from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe quoting that “everything is connected” it’s just in reality it just needs further collaboration.

If the Philippines is rich with folklore and mystery why not explore Australia’s best storytellers from the comic book scene? There are more ways to promote the graphic novels aside from the section you find in your local library it just needs further spotlight that would be both a win situation between Marion Library Services, Greenlight Comics, and the local art scene based in Adelaide which all you need is believe in it that would put interest in reading books but promoting what would be the next phase in Australian culture with the interest in graphic novels.
