Get Into Libraries | A Multimedia Place

06.19.2018 – Marion Library is not just about books that most people have known about this place.

In the era of internet age books and graphic novels have become digitally available and the library being the analog has to evolve or be stuck to being way how the dinosaurs got extinct.

In South Australia libraries has flourished not just about lending books or a place of study it has become a pseudo community service that offered not only for you to study and read books but have diversified in also borrowing movies, television series, PC Games and documentaries that seem to be “new” to this concept.

I haven’t been around long enough to discover what Marion Library has to offer. The place is supported by the City Marion’s council so all the funding to upgrade and rehabilitate what you call a modern library makes this place something to look forward to going and in acquiring a library card is FREE.

Though of the times I spent studying and sometimes build my small LEGO sets at the far back of the area where the graphic novel section is located I never got to go around and check what DVD or audio CDs the have. Just browsing the shelf reminds me of the days Block Buster video or Music One existed back in the Philippines. Today record stores have been struggling in my country due to rampant piracy, but here you get to borrow all the movies, television series or audio CDs that they have available in their catalogue ALL FREE.

So piracy here seems sort of non-existent if you ripped an audio CD because the library lets you borrow one that the actually they purchased just for everyone have a copy. No one’s going to sell ripped audio CDs here because everyone will be able to borrow the same thing same with the DVDs and Blu-Ray copies.

There are separate racks of multimedia content that everyone can borrow. There’s a section for children related material and the ones for adults. It’s interesting how I never see these due to being preoccupied just looking at the graphic novel section. Since I don’t have space to purchase comic books the library provides that alternative. If I didn’t mention it that you can also borrow other titles from other libraries since Marion Library is part of the One Card Network that links all other libraries across this state of South Australia though not sure if that applies to other places like Sydney or Melbourne but I’m just amazed how this place has done it.

If you happen to be just visiting and you want to take advantage of borrowing some stuff at Marion Library or any library within this state they can issue a temporary library card for tourists how cool is that?

For now I have to head home and just wait for the TV series I have put on hold to borrow sometime next week. Mork and Mindy is probably in another library can’t wait to pick that up quite nostalgic just to see the first season, Chow.

Special acknowledgement to Marion Libraries where borrow other the movies, television series, and music that you can also take home just LIKE Marion Libraries on Facebook and follow on Instagram or visit the website at: www.Marion.sa.gov.au/venues-and-facilities/libraries
