Ford v Ferrari | An Intense Race to the Finish

11.14.2019 – There are movies and then there’s a biographical film retelling true to life stories in the form of entertainment at the same time staying true to the facts with a little bit of difference based on what really happened.

It is rare nowadays that there’s a biographical film that hold interest and most of it is about human lives.

Ford v Ferrari is another of those biographical films that is related to Motorsport with more about the man behind the wheel than the car itself. But this film is more about the heritage that put Ford Performance racing division to the world stage retelling the story how an American car manufacturing competed in 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It is also the story how Ford produced the iconic GT-40 that had won several championships competing in Le Mans during those tumultuous days. Behind engineers and drivers at Ford’s disposal they put together what would become one of the high performance cars in history.

With the lead cast portrayed by Matt Damon (Carroll Shelby) and Christian Bale (Ken Miles) this was an impressive film that was both intense at the same time educational to how Ford was dead set in beating Ferrari at their own game as premise to the film.

This also tells the story of both men that defied all odds in proving Ford Motor Company that they have the edge in competing Le Mans and winning it all. Damon and Bale’s portrayals Shelby and Miles great performance seeing chemistry in these two actors pairing also a fresh look for this film. James Mangold’s success in directing “The Wolverine” and the heart wrenching “Logan” gives his insights in the director’s chair in making the biopic less dull and straightforward.

Men from the Outside

The portrayal of Shelby and Miles as outsiders builds upon the interest that they prove themselves a force to be reckon with in butting heads building the iconic GT40 based on the based upon the British Lola Mk6.

Matt Damon a convincing Texan accent and Christian Bale’s oddly personality in their portrayals of their characters was top notch. With Bale’s method acting certainly defined who was Ken Miles and also having chemistry with young actor Noa Jupe as Peter Mills his son. Both Damon and Bale were impressive pairing indeed.

Seven Thousand Revolutions per minute

What makes this film intense is the racing scenes how the 24 Hours of Le Mans depicted in the mid-1960s and it was definitely exhilarating from start to finish how Ken Miles deals with adversary in the race course with oddball personality singing the tune of H-A-P-P-Y-!

This film certainly led by Oscar nominated actors due to the strong script (by “Edge of Tomorrow” writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth and “Machine Gun Preacher” writer Jason Keller). Truly, a remarkable film that is under the radar for most looking forward to blockbuster films as this must be quit an Oscar buzz.

Overall “Ford v Ferrari” strikes a balance between the intense racing scenes and chemistry between Matt Damon and Christian Bale that also gives you a history behind how Ford Motor Company put together engineers, designers and drivers competed in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans that built the endurance car that is the Ford GT-40 (Grand Touring with the 40 representing its height of 40 inches or 1.02 metres)
