Jomike Tejido | From Transformers to TRANS ITIONS

03.03.2019 – In the last two years the contemporary art scene in the Philippines has become a regular staple of events over the weekend like every Saturday there’s a new solo or group show featuring these talented individuals.

There’s more to just appreciating art and call it for what it was and rarely you’ll find that you gravitate to.

But there are others who have been around to showcase their artistry that define what truly appreciative about what is out there. Jomike Tejido is one of these talented individuals that you’ll find his work unique that makes him stand out. This is his tenth solo show that deserves a spotlight that you may find it interesting.


Jomike is a licensed architect at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) in the Philippines knowing the artist outside his works was through a community group where he used to collect Transformers toys, mostly he’s into restoring old vintage ones that he grew up with.

Like any hobbyist he was into the original G1 Transformers rarely would be into the current ones or even the reissue of the vintage ones. Back then he uses to draw comic strips of “Mikrokosmos” a story about the world of insects that he published on the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Though the early to mid-2000s he also developed his style of writing and putting up Children’s Books.





He also got into contribute to the defunct Philippine edition of K-Zone when he created his ‘Paper Transformers’ with “Foldabots” complete with a back story and every detail of the characters he developed that would eventually spin-off as a comicbook series that he co-created as an annual title that builds the fiction of the characters he started.

Then he also had his version of the ‘Art Toy’ with Robotars, a robotic Tarsier and then behind the scenes he was also focusing on making his own brand of contemporary art.







It’s called “Banig” art which combines his style of painting incorporating woven mats to each of his masterpiece. JoMike’s tenth solo show reveals his latest work and with that the presentation on the artworks dubbed “TRANS ITIONS” the title of the show.

These are new artworks that is currently on exhibit at Galerie Stephanie at the fourth level of the East Wing at the Shangri-La Mall from 2 March to 16, 2019.
