Vinyl on Vinyl | Taken as a Lover, Burning as a Witch

You’ve seen it once you have seen it and most of the time going to local galleries you get used to the crowd. Then you learn more about the featured artist. For Iyan De Jesus, it’s been a long road for her work to be noticed. The same way Vinyl on Vinyl was just starting in a small art space that is nothing more than a high-rise condo presently at the old location where De Jesus started.

VoV has been bouncing around to a location and then settled to their permanent home, where you will find other art galleries. In the same way, Iyan has slowly continued to refine and master her art style. Most of her background has been defined by gears, but she continues to experiment with keeping that signature aesthetics.

Fresh from her successful overseas show in Italy with her contemporaries and a recent two-artist show with Jellyfish Kisses aka Anton Belardo back in June. This time she takes a solo spotlight entitled: “Taken as a Lover, Burning as a Witch”

Her signature art style is lightyears ahead of how she debuted her first solo show with Vinyl on Vinyl almost a decade ago. Redefining the figures and images as an inspiration to the paintings that she saw while spending weeks in Milan with the VoV team and having her adventures going to galleries that are older than her mother country where she is based.

It is a testament to her constant evolution finding inspiration, and she continues to add something new to her life’s work. From those mechanical gears, you find black empty voids that don’t distract you but enhance the main figure in the painting. The title of her show gives you that fantasy vibe to an overall narrative in the featured pieces she has presented in her latest solo show.

In case you missed the opportunity to see it in person, here are her latest works that were unveiled during reception night at the gallery.

“Taken as a Lover, Burning as a Witch is Iyan De Jesus’ Solo Show that opened on 17 August 2023, and will be taking space at Vinyl on Vinyl’s main gallery until the first week of September 2023.
