`Tol | A Friendship of Hilarious Breakups

01.04.2019 – Filipino movies are a hit or a miss depends on how it was written, produced and directed. It’s a rarity that there are films that make you feel compelled to see it because of curiosity.

Then there’s something relatable that mirrors some of the elements that was inspired from reality. There’s one such film that captures the essence of being part of that and it’s “`Tol” a comedy flick about three friends were the first trailer dropped yesterday.

“`Tol” in Filipino is a slang word meaning “friend” and obviously it’s also a pun for the job description for the three lead characters were they are employed in a Tollgate. The opening trailer revealed all three have been in a very fine mess speaking to a Police Officer filing a report and treats the incident in a flashback how these consequences came to be. For weeks Reality Entertainment on their Facebook page has been consistently promoting the film during the Christmas season and it’s finally here.

If “Jabongga” by the Legitz Misfits was not enough an ear worm to bring you back to the pinoy pop culture of the nineties then this film will definitely will.

The hilarious call backs may appear predictive for some that have commented that this film was inspired from the American film “There’s something about Mary” and with a hint of Three Stooges. Just because the humor would be aching to a ‘Retro-Comedy’ as this film is directed by Miko Livelo, known for nostalgic films from his childhood, and going back five years ago with Cinema One’s “Blue Bustamante” that indie film which brought him to this industry now with ‘Tol.

The humble director commented that don’t give way too high expectations for his upcoming film, and he means well to just enjoy a popcorn on hand with a few good laughs just to be entertained the way he got inspiration from the old Filipinos films in the 1990s.

For anyone who hasn’t heard about this director he is also the one behind TV5’s D5 Studio streaming comedy series “Tanods” who is still putting the finishing touches on the long awaited new season.

‘Tol is heading to Philippine cinemas on 30 January 2019 that stars Arjo Atayde, Joross Gamboa, Ketchup Eusebio and, Jessy Mendiola, with the special participation of Jimmy Santos and directed by Miko Livelo from Reality Entertainment.
