| Living in a rural area has its perks. Still, it also presents some challenges, particularly in terms of accessibility, as not everything is readily available when compared to life in a big city. It’s where you have access to everything.
The town life is different, and it is slower than you’d expect. But when it’s time for a supply run, it becomes exciting. Too excited that you forget you have a tight schedule and a limited budget. It’s been a while since the last visit to Mr. D.I.Y. earlier this month. The morning was a lot of things, and this was our last stop before heading back. The budget was gone, though window shopping was enough to check what they had. |
The last time, I went straight to where the toy section was. But this time, I was checking all the essentials needed for the house since some of the stuff there has been ancient and needs replacement, as there are some that are no longer working. Despite being a brand known to offer home improvements, Mr. D.I.Y. has its limitations on what they have to offer.
I checked that the fluorescent lamps are mainly their home brand, and you have to admit, the fluorescent lamps are already out of style. But knowing it is still being used at the house, I was hoping there would be a possibility of finding an extra replacement. It is outdated to even use it, as most homes are now using modern lighting. But the house was built in the 2000s, and it hasn’t changed since we last visited almost a decade ago.
After checking their lighting section, I just made a quick stop at the housewares section to see if they stocked a new porcelain coffee mug, and I was thinking the dog mug I got from a few weeks back needs a partner for it. There are interesting ones, and I didn't even notice they have cat-themed mugs that I missed, which would be on the list of getting on the next visit.
After that, I proceeded to the section where the can openers and strainers can be found. They only have the most common can openers, and not having other versions made me put that on the not-so-priorities, despite the one at the house could not function properly, as the gears won’t move anymore when you’re opening a can with no easy open tab.
It was a quick dash to the second level, and I went to the toy section, where I almost lost my mind seeing that they restocked the Hot Wheels section with almost the same case assortment that the only 7-Eleven store in Lambajon had in late August that was a few kilometers away had in late August.
But they have the mother lode that was nearly complete, which includes some of the sought-after ones. But I was only there to list down the essential stuff to get on the next visit. Hopefully, it’s not going to take three weeks of it. I also checked the Sluban section, and it seems some sets were bought that are no longer available.
After having some tough decisions, I kind of melted and have chosen to pick up some stuff with what budget I have with me. Before heading to check out, I also looked at the shower heads. The one in the other bathroom needs a new one, and by the time I was at the cashier, I looked at the rechargeable batteries I’m eyeing, which also need a replacement.
Mr. D.I.Y. became a personal go-to place since there aren’t any Shopping Centre in this part of Davao Oriental. It was a short trip since most of the budget went to the groceries, and the eggs and veggies from the wet market.
There was no time to check 7-Eleven, as the last trip was towards the end of August, which was also a quick one, not seeing much stuff there.
For now, I’m good with what I bought at Mr. D.I.Y., with something to occupy me for the next few weeks. The Sluban construction toys are an alternative to the more popular Danish brand, and the little sets certainly have their own charm. Hopefully, when there’s another chance to visit, I hope the ones I saw at the store are still in stock or have new ones to check out.
