Behind the Lens | Art, Toys & Photography
Just about to wrap things up with the opening night for Haraya’s solo show, and this was just appreciating her works when Jomike pops up for a quick short chat. I’m basically just hanging out and looking at his wife’s works when the random conversation began.
He actually shared his appreciation to the little things outside of his art, and reached from his pocket a little Transformer figure named Daddy-O, a Micromaster that also became the topic about photography and the use of backgrounds.
I couldn’t help it but share my perspective about Toy Photography, and how to capture an image the way taking a photo of a person on an ‘eye level.’ This is where I pointed to him the use of the backgrounds, and one example is that large flowery art that his wife’s creation that can be something more than just a painting that he revealed was an exploration and an experiment in art styles.
For toy photography, it happens in the same way and some take it to the extreme. But for this one was just how you take a random toy and a background that you see while turning them into an art through the lens or using a smartphone.
There are potential stories that can happen by just making things the way you never expected that can be possible. It can be an adventure of Daddy-O into a multiverse with a random bird made out of LEGO pieces or a portal just opened and a new adventure awaits!
Surely, there are ideas not just action poses and making the character look great in an image and all you need is to explore those stories and the ideas are limitless in Bringing Toys to Life.
