Car Meet at 19 Kopong Kopong

12.30.2019 – The unexpected Sunday going to an unknown event was something of an adventure dating back to my days living in South Australia. Rarely, the exploration will take me to places I’ve never been as often as related to the interest in car culture. It is rare in the Philippines to ever be part of one as the most common local car show.

But for last Saturday it was a privilege to end up going to one that is new and not confined in the outdoors. As the New Year inch closer this is sort of a year-end story to share with the “19 Kopong Kopong” Car Meet happened at Camp Aguinaldo.

It might not be like getting up early just to drive uphill to Blackwood but it was good.

It is open to the public but from clear observation the organizers are targeting actual automobile aficionados not just some random walk-in like the usual indoor car event held in a convention centre. The event was for those who appreciate the classics that is sort of a lost art in the automotive industry.

The rare finds you don’t see occasionally on the road can be found parked side by side with other car greats from yesteryear. It was really a good weather moment up to the closing of the event with a lot of classics all lined up together while the owners chat up with curious aspiring would-be owners of their dream machine.

This was definitely was a great weekender for someone who likes cars and meeting people all the credits go to the organizers namely the Toyota Classic Car Club with their sponsors in making it happen as you can see the images below…

Notable cars are the variations of Ford Escort and Toyota Starlet was a rare treat, but there was almost a scene stealer in the Honda Motocompo, a mini-scooter that is compact and foldable that is stored at the back of a Honda City Turbo II, which was not seen in this event. But the owner was cruising on this little thing that was only seen in the Japanese Anime “You’re Under Arrest.”

Spent almost the rest of the afternoon admiring the cars and seeing them up close was not as surreal, but it was great Sunday to see them parked and the details of shine never aged as nostalgia hits you with this kind of stories from their owners themselves. It was an overall educational and informative as the event winds down and they started giving the awards I was heading out.

It was a rare moment to have that same experience that I had back several months in July 2018, which was the last time I went to “Cars & Coffee” and it was something I will probably not going to see it in person but through the images shared on social media. But “19 Kopong Kopong” provided that just for a brief moment of appreciating passionate car owners of their classic cars was certainly nostalgic.
