Supergirl Day | The Maiden of Fandom

The end of June is closing in, but local events like Supergirl Day aren’t celebrated quite as often as most major comic book events like Free Comic Book Day, but it’s always a welcome situation when it is about a comic book character never quite the conversation. The premiere week of the movie Supergirl was the right time for it.

In the Philippines, how often do you get something like this compared to the recent event that just wrapped up at SM Mall of Asia, which did not even invite a local comic shop like Comic Odyssey to sell their Supergirl comic books? But this one not only promotes the movie, but also brings in local artists who worked on the books!

It was a one-day event that not everyone heard of, or even the majority of the masses would ever go see to participate in. But the local comic book community that frequents this universe has pulled up and shown support to local artists managed by Next Comic Art in collaboration with Comic Odyssey, who hosted this endeavour.

There were no activities, but you got to take home ONE FREE SUPERGIRL comic book when you lined up. For the early birds, the first fifty people who made the effort to travel from where they are just to be part of the celebration. If you’re also new to the world of comic books, you get to dig up the back issue bins at a discount for some titles that you want to read about.

The lineup of local artists from Next Comic Art is in full force, signing and sketching some incredible artworks that you don’t see being drawn in person. It also celebrates the fandom with some local cosplayers who went full super in costume, getting photos from walk-in visitors and fans of this realm.

It’s an unexpected situation when you go there, and your only objective is to get a copy of that Free Comic Book that they were giving away. But sometimes, an unexpected situation arises when you just appreciate and not take for granted that you’ll take home more than you never thought expected.

It goes back to the Batman Day celebrating the cape crusader’s 80th anniversary, and then taking home not one, but almost all the Free Comics. It’s just the same thing here from Comic Odyssey. They really are not just a store, but a passionate supporter of comic books that in some countries is a dying interest.

Also, one of the fans who had a brilliant idea to get that one Supergirl title that featured her and Krypto on a white canvas cover was something the local artists at the event could get signed for free, which was an added memento that made the Supergirl Day experience something to remember!
