Return to Korea | Busan Before Departure

01.18.2019 – A few days ago no one noticed or was informed the trip to South Korea was relatively unknown.

Preferably low key for the whole duration of the trip because it is also a business travel not a luxury adventure to explore the place. It is give I’ve been to South Korea almost eight years ago.

This one was fairly a short trip by a week nothing much to do cooped up just inside the compound where work is conducted.

There was not enough time to go places and it was mostly staying indoors or “in-ship” if you call that a word. But the last day before the flight was enough time at the airport.

Eight years ago the 18 Day stay in South Korea for most part of it is in Tonyeong province just a few hours away from the City of Busan. That’s where a former shipyard used to be but that was a different story to tell.

The stay though was an experience to soak in to Korean culture and living with the everyday life. This time it is a shorter one spending the time inside a newly built vessel was nerve wrecking challenge. It was only for seven days but the experience was second to none with living little to no resemblance to living South Australia for almost two years it taught a personal lesson to value every life.

Most of what you see in social media or through blogs and vlogs is the luxury life. “The Good Life” of travel not the reality of how people really live in these cities. Spending most of the time inside a compound was just fine because it is work-related unlike just going around showing off the places you go that you don’t even know the history behind it is like dumbing down that others don’t have the opportunity to have a good life when you can tell a decent story how the real experience happens.

That is how self-service work at a coffee shop not being assisted by a staff that makes you feel like being spoon fed.

Reminiscing Busan Terminal

It was a long trip back to Busan from the shipyard where living residence was quite like a camp. Road trips are great but on the road in South Korea are quite different where all you see along the way are structures upon structures with no attraction to appreciate in sight.

The waiting game at the Terminal gives a personal perspective how it was different from 2011. The bookshop at the foot of the escalator is still there somewhat changed although the old lady managing it is still there. The rest of the area before entering the departure area is different. The Popeye’s at the other side where I had my last meal before entering the departure area is gone. Several changes has happened in the past eight years really had a refreshing look at this airport.

Pokemon-ish 7 Eleven

Before entering the Departure area had heavy dinner at the Burger Lab, which taken most of the time due to the amount of people crowding this place. But it was worth the experience seeing how different burger joints are in South Korea.

Upon entering the Departure area the setup is still the same, but had changes in the vendors with the exception of some coffee shops, Dunkin Donuts, and that 7 Eleven where I met one of the staff that followed an old blog. It is where I got the only copy of Maxim Korea that now no longer sell magazines. Those were the days published material was something else than reading it on digital. The setup inside the store has changed as well, but the good stuff that 7 Eleven Philippines doesn’t have are still here. Although not more abundant than the one in Tongyeong, where I used to hangout back in March 2011.

For this month their promo has something to do with Pokemon. Clearly, all 7 Eleven stores in Asia must be going crazy over Pokemon. I picked up some Pikachu Keychains for souvenir to take with me. There’s not much merchandise available probably it is the promo’s tail end and most of the purchases are snacks before boarding when time was all up.

It is a busy place and the past of what I used to know about this terminal has changed. Those times before leaving were the best and traveling was not what it used to be more than appreciating the living comforts of the everyday life. It was great short trip going back to the first time being there still one of the best places to travel though…
