Tamodern Times | Unapologetic Madness

02.07.2019 – In the Philippines independent publishing when it comes to comics has no limitation. Unlike in western countries like the US, they follow a strict rule about restriction when it comes to content. Even before the abolishment the Comics Code Authority that police and governs that regulates all manner of published content there’s going to be a warning as not all readers have the same age group.

Well, there are still self-published materials that get away with the content they produce without literal saying this is only for “mature readers” case in point with the works by Noel Pascual and AJ Bernardo. This same duo who created a cult following about Crime-Fightings Call Center Agents has just discretely released their most recent comics at the Komikon Grande last November 2018. You can’t find this book at any local comic shop but through events happening in Manila where the creators participate. Unless you’re friends with them on social media particularly on Facebook you’ll be able to acquire this book.

“A modern Times: Super Futuristic Philippines” sounds like a promising work written by Noel Pascual but when you browse through the pages you’ll probably have an opposite reaction to the ‘what the effect’ even with AJ Bernardo’s ever-improving art style this short story does not apologize for its crass, befuddled, and unrelated content that simply screams to be a nonsense at the same time quite impressive that for some unfunny.

Published: November 2018
Content: For Mature Readers
Language: Filipino (Tagalog)

But gloriously shows you how they can twist what political satire they read in the local news. For something quite serious the title was already a throwaway that simply shows that these two talented creators don’t bother what people will say as long as you buy their comic book.

The comic book itself appears to be sold in stealth during Grand Komikon when they slowly peddled they wares on a late afternoon. AJ Bernardo who was just about to set-up their table that day was still lacking sleep at past 1 PM in the afternoon and Noel Pascual was nowhere around.

“Tamodern Times” is in Filipino (Tagalog) language with the term “Tamod” slang term for “Semen” playful words that immediately concocted from the minds of these two creators.

Though not to spoil for the curious mind what made this comic book interesting is as good or bad humor to those who really know already as the title says. To simply give you an idea about this short narrative regarding the country’s future of “What If?” all manner of currency is made of “Tamod” in one chapter of this book without the need to delve into the synopsis just rather a playful idea from their minds.

Unapologetic and downright nonsense can sum up by what is this book is all about that is simply courageously done with the way they presented their previous works. It’s just like ‘business as usual’ for both Pascual and Bernardo hamming it up with a parody of underlying mischiefs that can be a mirror universe of what really the future of the Philippines can be. “Tamodern Times: Super Futuristic Philippines” from the same creator of “Crime-Fighting Call Center Agents” is not sold in any local shops you just have to look for Neol Pascual or AJ Bernardo for a copy that was available at Komikon Grande last November 2018.

“Tamodern Times: Super Futuristic Philippines” a short story graphic novel by Nowel Pascual and AJ Bernardo published under Kowtow Komics with the cover price of PHP 75.00 pesos [$1.45 US | $ 1.98 AU] was sold only at Komikon Grande in November 2018.
