Galleria Nicolas | Hirameki: Cloudscapes

Cloudscapes can be viewed from Earth and often include just enough landscape to suggest scale orientation weather conditions, and distance (through the application of the technique of aerial perspective). Cloudscape and skyscape are sometimes used interchangeably, although a skyscape does not necessarily require a view of clouds.**

It is an art by itself of a view of clouds or the sky. Rarely, if you would define one if you live in a densely populated city. But while living in another country in a small city in Adelaide, there are directions you can see the clouds or if you are outside of the CBD you will see cloud formations and most of it during the “golden hour” such as defined by a part of the title of Jomike Tejido’s latest Solo Exhibition.

“Hrameki: Cloudscapes” is the title of Jomike’s latest solo art show at Galleria Nicolas not only to celebrate his works, but as a father, brother, and friend. He pulls back and gives you something to appreciate and think about as a “brainwave” or a “flash of inspiration” is what “Hirameki” means, and in the same breath as putting it together with the “Cloudscapes” it takes a new narrative in each of his latest works.

Jomike’s connection to Japanese culture goes back to his childhood not only with transforming alien robots that turn into cars and planes but also his appreciation for what inspired him to create great art telling new stories that continue to keep his works fresh and vibrant to the eyes and minds of people have known his works as well as those walk-ins that catch other curiosities.

Clouds are Fairy Floss Too

With the theme of his works that has something to do with clouds, there was also a Fairy Floss cart where a man diligently and passionately created some artful cotton candy for the kids and parents who have supported Jomike, and at first, I wasn’t paying attention to the set-up. But being Jomike and known for his cheerful and child-friendly creations there’s going to be something for everyone to appreciate.

Cotton Candy or Fairy Floss are often “sweet clouds” that cheer the young and the young at heart. A smart idea to tie up the theme of the latest artworks' depictions of Cloudscapes is such an instant inspiration, hence the Japanese term “Hirameki” comes to mind, and why it is always special whenever Jomike puts together his latest works that are slowly popular in the art community that is both optimistic primes.

A Brainwave of Inspiration

The artist's reception was not only about the gallery opening its doors to those who want to see Jomike’s latest creations. There was a mini program, where he had a special raffle to lucky winners taking home his latest book, “The Manifesto of Play” and mini versions of his Cloudscapes that were coveted by those who attended the opening night for this art show.

There’s so much Fairy Floss to go around that night too, and despite the in and out of rainy downpours late in the afternoon the clouds continue to inspire what this theme for Jomike’s latest exhibition is all about. It is also timing that this weekend is for the fathers too, and Jomike certainly enjoys the families and friends who supported the show and made it a subtle success that no one expected.

"Hirameki: Cloudscape" is the latest solo show featuring Jomike Tejido, which is currently on exhibit from 15 until 24 June 2024 at Galleria Nicolas in Greenbelt 5 Mall. For more about the other upcoming art shows, you can follow Galleria Nicolas on social media via Facebook and Instagram.
