WOCEE & WOSAS 2023 | Innovations & Safety

There hasn’t been an event in the last decade that promotes the technologies that would change our lives. But a consumer expo has been around decades ago that solely focused on what computers are becoming for the future, and that was when the year 2000 rolled that would promote new technologies that have not been available in the marketplace not even in the Philippine retail.

But years ago that particular event would focus more on the power of computing, and what needs to do with technologies related to computers. There have consumer-related events that promote the latest technologies, but two events with emerging technology that saves lives is a combination that’s worth seeing for yourself.

The events WOCEE (World of Consumer Electronics Expo) and WOSAS (World of Safety and Security Expo), which is in their fifth edition have been absent in the last three years due to the pandemic returns at the SMX Convention Centre in the SM Mall of Asia opened up its first day.

The installation where the clouds have lightning in it does not do justice to a still image you have to see it for yourself to appreciate the way it was set up, and it is something you will only see during the duration of the show.

It’s been a while since an expo was held about emerging technologies and tackling the ever-changing consumers online. With Blockchain and Crypto-Currency becoming the “money” used on the internet I would feel outdated with these words that become jargon to the ordinary consumer that rarely lives in the information superhighway.

But some representatives and experts were present on the stage to discuss these technologies on how to make business and use these types of currency. There are also participating exhibitors who were present to promote their products at the same time suggest the use of their brand for those media-savvy content creators.

There are also specific areas that are convenient to find out more about technologies that promote education through robotics or those who are into broadcast e-games. It might make an ordinary consumer get lost in all the things they would see unfamiliar to their everyday life, but it is the things that are slowly becoming part of other people who have been updated with the new technologies that have not made it to the mainstream populace.

For someone who have little knowledge of what’s in this event you won’t entirely get lost in it as these two events would help you guide and invest in your future. From electric cars from Nissan and Hyundai on the WOCEE side to the safety gear that starts with safety shoes and rescue devices can be found on the WOSAS side. Every participating booth will give you an idea of what they have to offer.

There are some of the finest first responders at the event that have their vehicles and heavy equipment on display at the WOSAS that you’d never known existed. From small pieces of equipment that can be used for metal detection to the larger heavy equipment that are unmanned and can help put out the fire.

There are also consumer electronics for the average individual looking to upgrade their carry-on speakers to owning the most basic drone for their video recording for their content creations. There are impressive as what to look out for that you might not see online, but you may find it here by surprise.

There are some of my personal favourites in this event like JBL’s line of speakers and SHURE’s minimalistic microphone and other recording paraphernalia that enhance a mobile phone in becoming a recording device for content creators.

But the one that stood out that’s a personal favourite when it comes to unmanned heavy equipment that is used for fire fighting is the LUF 60, which is being used by the Fire and Rescue team in Manila, which was on display at the area at their far end of the convention centre and it’s just sitting there like some ordinary equipment like a prop display.

The LUF 60 is unmanned firefighting heavy equipment that is remote-controlled, and it features a big round cylindrical piece that blasts water with a gust of wind. It’s hilarious that at the rear part of this robot, there’s an image of Tōshō Daimos, which some Filipinos who grew up watching this anime will associate with this firefighting equipment as part of the robot.

Because the rear part of the LUF 60 looks like one-half of Daimos’ famous Double Blizzard that’s mounted on the robot’s chest area. This would stand out for those visiting the event and it shows the Manila Fire Department are fans of the famous Japanese anime series from the 1970s/1980s in the country.

WOCEE and WOSAS are held at the ground level of the SMX Convention Centre in SM Mall of Asia happening from 9-12 August 2023.
