Pre-Movie Screenings | Filipino Pageantry

04.27.2019 – Movies is one of Filipinos past time that it never stops to appreciate it on the big screen. With the fourth instalment of the Avengers franchise within the “Infinity Saga” that is the 22nd Marvel film in eleven years it is considered the crowning jewel that geeks have waited for since the heart wrenching Infinity War.

But we’re not here to talk about the film although we can understand that tickets have been selling out all over world.

Filipinos had eaten all the tickets up and while we’re on the subject of movies there have been companies and people organizing block screenings left and right that was crazy from other countries.

There were no special screenings for those who usually get special access, but they have been invited to block screenings. These types’ special screenings build up communities and interest and there have been good and not-so unforgettable.

It was a pleasure and humbled to be invited by a comrade to see it almost forty eight hours after the first screening. I’ve been invited by these movie distributors in the past and have experienced how these advanced media screening happens. It is rarely there ever was a program, but usual radio stations give out tickets and they host screenings with little or less programs to get into seeing the main event.

I really do appreciate seeing the film and having a good time with fellow Marvel fans. But what was cringe worthy for that an oddball with most Filipinos is the pageantry. They want to extended the intermission before the event and have been evident in TV game shows and some of the major sports event like boxing and basketball. Filipinos like to make a fiesta out of an event and this happens most of the time.

The block screening that I got to see Avengers: Endgame is no different for those types that I’ve mentioned. Like I said I appreciate being part of the experience for the film but not for the cringe worthy kind of event that’s trying to be celebratory.

A personal experience going to similar types of event in Australia is not like this, which is why they go straight to the point and that is what’s satisfying. They keep it real skipping the long winded program to the point that one of the sponsors has became a pun to our personal jokes due to boredom.

Event programs are fine there must be the right execution and balance to keeping everyone entertained before the screening. But Filipinos tend to abuse it so much it becomes out of control to point of milking the cow until it runs dry. It doesn’t only happen in this kind of situation it’s everywhere from getting free stuff to making something into a business.

Children should not be left alone with mobile devices as not the best solution for their boredom.

It is rare if there’s being a conservative individual or company out there that does not abuse so many things. Lining up just to get into the cinema is fine, but excessive program with so much fanfare is like everyone had taken out the skin of a roast pig for their plate on the first pass to enjoy, but they weren’t satisfied enough to go seconds, third, or fourth.

I decided to step out for a few minutes in respect to just sit there and drown myself through the noise. I also decided to get some drink, since there was so much time after the long wait before they started letting everyone in the cinema.

It’s just a personal opinion about these things. I do appreciate the first bit parts of the program, but things where getting out of hand for me. But overall it was also the right timing when they started showing the trailers and I had shut up, for now.
